Checkmat Bristol

Checkmat Bristol is a small Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy training out of a shared community facility in Lawrence Weston, on the edge of Bristol. It is part of the Checkmat team, an internationally recognised BJJ lineage founded by Leo Vieira, and is led by head coach Richard Long, a second degree black belt, with links to the wider Checkmat Europe network. The academy is registered with the IBJJF and welcomes practitioners of all levels, running dedicated kids and adults classes. It operates as a small, community-focused club rather than a large commercial gym, and has continued running classes while searching for a more permanent venue. The club maintains ties to its parent Checkmat organisation through visiting seminars from senior figures in the team.
