Checkmat BTX

Checkmat BTX is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy in Brownsville, Texas, affiliated with the Checkmat team of Master Leo Vieira. It was founded by Professor Jose Gutierrez, a second-degree black belt from the Southern California Buena Park lineage, who moved to the Rio Grande Valley to bring that level and culture of jiu-jitsu to the area. The academy teaches both gi and no-gi, with all-levels adult classes, a women's class, kids' programs including a younger Little Champs group, a gi open mat and private sessions. Kids' belt promotions are held on the calendar. The motto is Continuous Improvement, and the site notes that the academy is bilingual.
