Hyo Gen Do Karate

Hyo Gen Do Karate is a long-established karate club founded by Sensei Steve Groom, teaching a modern interpretation of Wado Ryu-based karate. The name translates as "To Give Expression to the Way", and the club builds its teaching around expression, belief, integrity, passion and harmony. This Bexley class is held in a church hall and is one of five venues the club runs across south-east London and Kent. Children's beginner groups focus on personal development and confidence, including anti-bullying skills, while adult sessions concentrate on applied karate and self-defence. An intermediate group and a competition squad provide a pathway towards national-level competition. Students with special educational needs or disabilities are welcomed. Gradings are by invitation only. Instructors are DBS checked and first aid trained, and the club holds the Sport England Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts award.
