UK & Ireland BJJ Pricing Report 2026
4 June 2026
174 academies. Five countries. The first edition of the Matador BJJ Pricing Index.
Executive Summary
One of the most common questions asked by prospective Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu students is surprisingly difficult to answer:
"How much should BJJ training cost?"
Based on the 2026 dataset, a practitioner training in London can expect to pay more than twice the monthly membership cost of a practitioner training in some of the UK's most affordable regions.
Unlike many other industries, pricing information in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is often fragmented across hundreds of gym websites, membership portals, social media pages and enquiry forms. Some academies publish their prices openly. Others require a trial class, consultation or direct enquiry before revealing costs.
As a result, prospective students, parents and even gym owners often struggle to understand whether a membership price represents good value compared to their local market.
To address this, Matador conducted one of the largest publicly assembled reviews of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu pricing across the United Kingdom and Ireland.
This report analyses pricing from 174 academies across England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
Importantly, all pricing data included in this report was collected from publicly available sources, including academy websites, official membership pages and publicly accessible pricing information. No pricing data has been extracted from private information within the Matador platform.
The research reflects publicly available pricing as it existed during June 2026.
Matador currently indexes 813 combat sports gyms across the United Kingdom, many of which remain unclaimed or do not publicly publish pricing information. This study successfully collected pricing from 156 UK academies, representing approximately 19.2% of the UK gyms currently indexed by Matador.
The purpose of this report is simple:
To provide practitioners, parents, coaches, gym owners and industry stakeholders with a transparent benchmark for understanding the true cost of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training across the UK and Ireland.
In this report we break down:
- Adult membership costs by country
- Adult membership costs by region
- Children's membership costs
- Drop-in pricing
- Regional pricing differences
- The factors that influence gym pricing
- Frequently asked questions about BJJ training costs
One of the biggest challenges when researching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu membership costs is the lack of publicly available pricing data. Many academies do not publish their fees online, making regional comparisons difficult. For this report, we collected pricing information from 174 academies across the United Kingdom and Ireland using publicly available sources, creating one of the largest publicly assembled BJJ pricing benchmarks available.
What Is The Average Cost of BJJ in the UK?
Based on pricing collected from 174 academies across the UK and Ireland, the median cost of an unlimited adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu membership in 2026 is approximately £70 per month.
UK & Ireland BJJ Pricing Report 2026: At a Glance
Before diving into regional pricing trends, membership breakdowns and country-level analysis, the table below summarises the key findings from the largest publicly assembled review of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu membership pricing across the UK and Ireland. The dataset covers 174 academies and provides benchmark figures for adult memberships, children's memberships and drop-in training costs.

Key metrics from the UK & Ireland BJJ Pricing Report 2026, including sample size, country coverage and the inaugural Matador BJJ Pricing Index benchmarks for adult memberships, children's memberships and drop-in training.
The data reveals a surprisingly consistent pricing structure across much of the UK and Ireland. While premium markets such as London command significantly higher membership fees, most academies cluster within a relatively narrow range. The findings establish the first edition of the Matador BJJ Pricing Index (MBPI), creating a benchmark that practitioners, parents, gym owners and industry stakeholders can use to compare pricing and track future market trends.
Pricing Dataset Coverage
One of the biggest challenges when analysing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu pricing is the lack of publicly available information. Many academies do not publish membership fees online, making meaningful comparisons difficult. To create a representative benchmark, pricing information was collected from publicly available academy websites, membership portals and published pricing pages across the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The table below shows the number of academies included within the 2026 dataset by country.

Sample size by country for the UK & Ireland BJJ Pricing Report 2026. Data collected from publicly available pricing information as of June 2026.
The final dataset includes pricing information from 174 academies across five countries, making it one of the most comprehensive publicly assembled studies of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu membership pricing currently available. England accounts for the largest proportion of the sample, reflecting both the size of the market and the availability of public pricing information. Wales and Scotland achieved particularly strong coverage relative to the size of their respective BJJ communities, while Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland provide valuable additional insight into pricing trends across the wider Irish market.
The breadth of the dataset allows for meaningful country-level and regional analysis while establishing a baseline for future editions of the Matador BJJ Pricing Index (MBPI).
Methodology: Pricing data was collected from publicly available gym websites, membership pages, booking systems and published pricing documents. No pricing data was sourced directly from the Matador platform. Information is accurate to the best of our knowledge as of June 2026. Where multiple membership options were available, unlimited adult memberships were prioritised to maximise comparability between academies.
Key Insight: More than half of all academies included in the study are located in England (54.6%), reflecting the size of the English BJJ market. Scotland (20.1%), Wales (11.5%), the Republic of Ireland (10.3%) and Northern Ireland (3.4%) provide additional coverage, resulting in a 174-academy dataset spanning five countries across the UK and Ireland.
Limitations of the Dataset
While this report represents one of the most comprehensive publicly assembled reviews of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu membership pricing currently available across the United Kingdom and Ireland, several limitations should be acknowledged.
The study relies exclusively on publicly available pricing information published by academies through official websites, membership portals, booking systems and other publicly accessible sources. Many academies do not publish their pricing online, instead requiring prospective members to enquire directly, attend a trial session or speak with coaching staff before membership costs are disclosed. As a result, the dataset does not capture every academy operating within the UK and Ireland.
Pricing structures also vary considerably between academies. Some gyms offer unlimited memberships, while others operate tiered pricing based on training frequency, contract length, age groups, family memberships or access to additional disciplines. Wherever possible, equivalent unlimited adult membership pricing was used to maintain consistency across the dataset.
The Republic of Ireland results should also be interpreted with some caution, as a significant proportion of publicly available pricing information originates from academies located within the Dublin metropolitan area. This may result in median pricing appearing higher than would be observed across the country as a whole.
Similarly, children's membership pricing, drop-in fees and family membership discounts were not publicly available for every academy reviewed. The figures presented within this report should therefore be viewed as representative market benchmarks rather than definitive national averages.
Despite these limitations, the dataset covers 174 academies across five countries and provides a robust snapshot of publicly available Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu pricing as of June 2026. As additional academies publish pricing information and more gyms claim their profiles within the Matador ecosystem, future editions of this report will continue to improve in depth, coverage and accuracy.
Transparency Note: No pricing data contained within this report was sourced from private information held within the Matador platform. All figures were collected from publicly accessible sources available at the time of research.
Introducing the Matador BJJ Pricing Index (MBPI)
One of the goals of this report is not only to benchmark pricing today, but also to establish a consistent way of measuring how Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu membership costs evolve over time.
To achieve this, Matador has created the Matador BJJ Pricing Index (MBPI).
The MBPI provides a standardised benchmark based on publicly available pricing information collected from academies across the United Kingdom and Ireland. By tracking the same metrics annually, the index provides a clear view of how participation costs change over time and allows practitioners, gym owners and industry stakeholders to compare pricing against national benchmarks.
How The Index Is Calculated
The Matador BJJ Pricing Index is based on the median publicly available membership price identified during our annual pricing review.
Median pricing is used rather than average pricing because it reduces the influence of outliers. For example, premium academies in London can charge substantially more than the national average, while smaller regional academies may charge significantly less. The median therefore provides a more accurate representation of the typical cost paid by practitioners.
The 2026 edition of the index is based on pricing data collected from 174 academies across England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
All pricing information was sourced from publicly available academy websites, membership portals and published pricing documents.
Matador Adult BJJ Pricing Index (MBPI-A)
2026 Index Value: 70
The Matador Adult BJJ Pricing Index represents the median monthly cost of an unlimited adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu membership across the UK and Ireland.
Based on the academies analysed in this report, the typical practitioner can expect to pay approximately £70 per month for unlimited training access.
This figure serves as the primary benchmark for adult BJJ participation costs and will be tracked annually to monitor inflation, market maturity and pricing trends across the industry.
Matador Kids BJJ Pricing Index (MBPI-K)
2026 Index Value: 40
The Matador Kids BJJ Pricing Index represents the median monthly cost of children's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu memberships across the UK and Ireland.
Analysis of publicly available junior membership pricing identified a typical monthly cost of approximately £40 per month.
The data suggests that children's memberships are generally priced at around 55–60% of equivalent adult memberships, making youth participation one of the most accessible entry points into the sport.
Matador Drop-In Pricing Index (MBPI-D)
2026 Index Value: 10
The Matador Drop-In Pricing Index represents the median cost of a single casual training session.
Unlike monthly memberships, drop-in fees remain highly standardised across the UK and Ireland, with most academies charging between £10 and £15.
The median drop-in fee identified in this study was £10 per session, making it the most consistent pricing category within the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu industry.
Why The Index Matters
The Matador BJJ Pricing Index provides a simple benchmark that practitioners, parents, coaches and gym owners can use to understand whether pricing sits above or below the wider market.
As future editions are published, the index will allow the community to track:
- Changes in membership affordability
- Regional pricing trends
- Inflationary pressures within the industry
- Growth and maturity of local BJJ markets
- Long-term participation costs
The 2026 index establishes the first baseline for measuring the cost of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training across the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The Matador BJJ Pricing Index 2026

Future annual reports will track these values to provide a consistent measure of pricing movements across the UK and Ireland Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu market.
Key Findings
Before diving into the regional analysis, several clear trends emerged from the data.
- Most academies charge between £60 and £80 per month for unlimited adult training.
- The most common membership price falls between £65 and £70 per month.
- London remains the most expensive BJJ market in the UK.
- Wales offers some of the strongest value for money.
- Scotland remains highly competitive on pricing.
- Republic of Ireland pricing ranks among the highest in the dataset, although the results are likely influenced by the concentration of academies located within the Dublin metropolitan area.
- Most children's memberships fall between £30 and £45 per month.
- Most drop-in fees fall between £10 and £15.
Despite significant differences in geography, rent and local demand, the majority of academies remain concentrated within a relatively narrow pricing range.
Adult BJJ Membership Pricing By Country
Significant pricing differences exist across the UK and Ireland. Wales currently offers the lowest median adult membership cost in our dataset, while the Republic of Ireland has the highest median pricing. England, Scotland and Northern Ireland fall between these two extremes, reflecting differences in local economies, facility costs and market maturity.
UK Median Adult BJJ Membership Costs by Country (2026)

Median adult unlimited membership costs by country and region based on publicly available pricing data collected from 174 academies across the UK and Ireland.
Key Insight: Adult BJJ membership costs in the Republic of Ireland are approximately 50% higher than the Welsh median, while England sits around 20–30% above Wales. This highlights significant regional variation across the UK and Ireland BJJ market.
The data suggests that Wales and Scotland offer some of the strongest value propositions in the UK and Irish BJJ market, while London and parts of South-East England command substantial premiums.
While individual gym pricing can vary considerably, median values provide a useful benchmark for understanding the typical cost of training in each country. Practitioners moving between regions can use these figures as a realistic guide when budgeting for membership fees.
How Much Do Kids BJJ Classes Cost?
Children's memberships were available for a significant proportion of academies reviewed.
Children's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes are generally more affordable than adult memberships, making them one of the most accessible martial arts activities available. Across the gyms analysed, the majority of children's memberships fall within a relatively consistent price range.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has become increasingly popular among children, with many academies now offering dedicated programmes focused on confidence, discipline, fitness and self-defence. To understand the cost of youth training across the UK and Ireland, we analysed publicly available children's membership pricing wherever it was available. The table below summarises the typical monthly cost of kids' BJJ memberships by country.
Typical Children's BJJ Membership Costs (2026)

Typical monthly children's BJJ membership costs based on publicly available pricing data collected from UK and Ireland academies.
Children's memberships are generally priced at approximately 50–60% of the equivalent adult membership. While pricing varies between individual academies, most gyms across the UK offer children's programmes between £30 and £45 per month. The Republic of Ireland recorded the highest pricing range within the current sample, while Wales remained among the most affordable regions for youth participation.
Key Insight: Children's BJJ pricing is considerably more consistent than adult pricing. While adult memberships can vary significantly by region, most junior programmes across the UK and Ireland remain clustered between £30 and £45 per month, making youth participation one of the most affordable entry points into the sport.
Key Findings: Kids BJJ Pricing
- Most children's BJJ memberships across the UK fall between £30 and £45 per month.
- Wales recorded some of the most affordable youth training prices in the dataset.
- Republic of Ireland children's memberships were generally higher than those found elsewhere in the study.
- Most academies charge children approximately half the price of an adult unlimited membership.
- Family and sibling discounts are common but vary significantly between gyms.
- Children's pricing appears more consistent nationally than adult membership pricing.
Children's pricing was not publicly available for every academy reviewed. The figures shown represent the pricing ranges identified from publicly available information and should be treated as indicative market benchmarks rather than exact national medians.
How Much Does a BJJ Drop-In Cost?
For travelling practitioners and occasional visitors, drop-in pricing remains one of the most consistent costs across the UK and Ireland BJJ market. Unlike monthly memberships, which can vary significantly between regions, casual training fees show remarkably little variation.
BJJ Drop-In Training Costs (2026)
Drop-in sessions play an important role in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community. Whether you're travelling for work, visiting family, attending a competition, on holiday, or simply looking to train at a different academy, drop-in fees allow practitioners to access classes without committing to a full membership.
Unlike monthly memberships, which can vary considerably between regions, drop-in pricing is surprisingly consistent across the UK and Ireland. This consistency reflects the collaborative nature of the BJJ community, where visiting practitioners are generally welcomed and encouraged to train at new academies.
The table below summarises the typical drop-in fees identified during our research.

Typical BJJ drop-in pricing based on publicly available pricing data collected from academies across the UK and Ireland.
Key Insight: Drop-in pricing is the most standardised fee structure in the UK and Ireland BJJ industry. While monthly memberships can vary by more than 100% between regions, most academies continue to charge around £10–£15 for casual training access with some charging nothing at all for a one off.
The majority of academies charge between £10 and £15 for a single training session, with a median drop-in fee of approximately £10. This consistency suggests a strong industry-wide consensus regarding casual training rates and makes it easier for travelling practitioners to budget when visiting unfamiliar gyms.
Which Regions Have The Highest BJJ Prices?
While Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu remains accessible in many parts of the UK and Ireland, some regions command significantly higher membership fees. These differences are influenced by factors such as commercial rent, local wage levels, population density, facility quality and market demand.
Top 10 Most Expensive Regions for BJJ Memberships (2026)
Membership costs vary considerably across the UK and Ireland. While many regions maintain relatively affordable pricing, others command significantly higher fees due to factors such as commercial property costs, local demand, instructor availability and population density. The following ranking highlights the regions with the highest median adult membership costs in the dataset.

Top 10 highest-priced regions for adult BJJ memberships based on median monthly membership costs collected from publicly available pricing data in June 2026.
Key Insight: A practitioner training in London can expect to pay more than twice the median Welsh membership price (£60). The data also suggests a strong north-south divide, with Southern England containing six of the ten highest-priced regions in the entire UK and Ireland dataset.
London remains a clear outlier within the UK and Ireland BJJ market, with median membership costs significantly higher than any other region. Outside of London, Southern England continues to dominate the upper end of the pricing spectrum, with Essex, Sussex, Kent and Surrey all appearing in the top ten. The Republic of Ireland also ranks among the most expensive areas for BJJ training, reflecting broader differences in operating costs and local market conditions.
Despite London's reputation for high costs, the gap between the second-highest region (Essex) and London is substantial. London sits in a category of its own, while most other high-priced regions cluster between approximately £80 and £95 per month. This suggests that London pricing is driven by unique market factors rather than simply reflecting a gradual increase across neighbouring regions.
The Most Affordable Regions for BJJ Memberships in the UK & Ireland (2026)
While much of the discussion around Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu pricing focuses on expensive cities and premium academies, a number of regions continue to offer excellent value for practitioners. The data reveals that affordable training can still be found across both the UK and Ireland, particularly outside major metropolitan areas. These regions provide access to regular training at significantly lower costs than the national averages seen in London, the Republic of Ireland and parts of Southern England.

While London and parts of Southern England command premium membership prices, several regions offer significantly more affordable access to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training. Lincolnshire, the Scottish Borders and Dundee share the lowest median adult membership cost in the dataset at £50 per month, highlighting the substantial variation in training costs across the UK and Ireland. The findings demonstrate that location remains one of the biggest factors influencing the cost of BJJ training, with practitioners in some regions paying less than half the monthly membership fees seen in London's most expensive academies.
Key Insight 1 : A practitioner training in Lincolnshire, Dundee or the Scottish Borders can expect to pay around 60% less than someone training in London, making these regions some of the best-value locations for regular BJJ training in the UK and Ireland.
Key Insight 2 : The gap between the most affordable regions (£50/month) and London's median (£130+/month) exceeds £80 per month. Over the course of a year, this represents a difference of more than £960 in membership costs alone.
England BJJ Membership Costs by Region (2026)
Membership costs for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu vary significantly across England. The data shows a clear regional divide, with some counties offering excellent value for practitioners while others command premium pricing. London remains the most expensive market by a considerable margin, while regions such as Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and Cornwall provide some of the most affordable training opportunities in the country. These differences are influenced by factors such as commercial property costs, population density, local demand and the maturity of the regional BJJ market.
England BJJ Membership Costs by Region (2026)

Regional comparison of adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu membership costs across England based on publicly available pricing data collected in June 2026.
Key Insight: A practitioner training in London can expect to pay more than 2.5 times the median membership cost paid by a practitioner in Lincolnshire. This makes location one of the single biggest factors influencing the cost of BJJ training in England.
Scottish BJJ membership costs remain relatively consistent compared with other parts of the UK. The most affordable regions in the dataset are the Borders and Dundee, both averaging £50 per month, while Edinburgh and the Lothians represent the highest-priced area at approximately £74 per month. Overall, Scotland's pricing remains competitive when compared with England's more expensive regions and the Republic of Ireland.
Average BJJ Membership Costs Across Scotland by Region (2026)
Scotland's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community continues to offer some of the most accessible training costs in the UK. Based on publicly available pricing data collected from academies across the country, average adult membership fees range from £50 per month in the Borders and Dundee to approximately £74 per month in Edinburgh and the Lothians. Compared with many regions in England and the Republic of Ireland, Scotland demonstrates relatively consistent pricing, with a smaller gap between its most affordable and most expensive areas. The data suggests that practitioners can access high-quality BJJ training throughout Scotland without the significant regional price variations seen elsewhere in the UK and Ireland.

Regional breakdown of average adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu membership costs across Scotland based on publicly available pricing data collected in June 2026.
Key Insight: The difference between Scotland's most affordable and most expensive regions is approximately £24 per month, significantly smaller than England's regional spread, where London alone exceeds £130 per month.
Wales emerged as one of the most competitively priced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu markets in the UK.
Average BJJ Membership Costs Across Wales by Region (2026)
Across the 20 Welsh academies analysed, the median adult membership price was approximately £60 per month, significantly below many regions of England and below the overall UK average.
The Welsh dataset includes academies across:
- Clwyd
- Gwynedd
- Powys
- Gwent
- Glamorgan
- Carmarthenshire
- Ceredigion
This provides one of the most comprehensive publicly available snapshots of Welsh BJJ pricing currently available.
How Much Does BJJ Cost Across Wales?
Wales emerged as one of the most affordable Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu markets in the United Kingdom. Using publicly available pricing data from 20 academies across the country, we analysed membership costs by historic county to identify regional pricing trends. While some variation exists, Welsh academies generally cluster within a relatively narrow price range, offering strong value compared to many parts of England and Ireland.

Typical adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu membership pricing across Welsh historic counties based on publicly available academy pricing as of June 2026.
The data shows remarkable consistency across Wales. Most counties fall within the £55–70 per month range, with Powys representing the most affordable area in the current sample. Even the highest-priced Welsh regions remain significantly below the pricing commonly seen in London and parts of South-East England. This suggests that Welsh practitioners continue to benefit from some of the best value-for-money training opportunities in the UK.
Key Findings from Wales
- Wales recorded a national median adult membership price of approximately £60 per month.
- Powys was the most affordable region in the Welsh sample, with memberships typically ranging between £50–60.
- Glamorgan recorded the highest pricing range in Wales at approximately £60–75 per month.
- Most Welsh academies fall within a relatively narrow range of £55–70 per month.
- Welsh BJJ memberships remain considerably lower than those found in London, where median pricing exceeds £130 per month.
- The data suggests Wales offers some of the strongest value-for-money Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training in the UK.
- Pricing consistency across Welsh counties indicates a mature and accessible BJJ market throughout the country.
Welsh Market Insights
Several interesting patterns emerged from the Welsh data.
Wales Offers Exceptional Value
The Welsh median of approximately £60 per month places Wales among the most affordable BJJ markets in the United Kingdom.
Compared to London's median pricing of £130+, Welsh practitioners often pay less than half the cost for regular training.
Strong Regional Consistency
Unlike England, where pricing varies dramatically between counties, Welsh academies are generally clustered within a relatively narrow range.
Most memberships fall between £55 and £70 per month.
Growing Accessibility
The data suggests that BJJ remains highly accessible throughout Wales, with pricing remaining comparatively stable across both urban and rural locations.
Children's Memberships in Wales
Where publicly available, children's memberships generally fell within the national benchmark range of:
£30–£45 per month
Drop-In Pricing
Most Welsh academies charging drop-in fees were consistent with the wider UK market:
£10–£15 per session
Why This Matters For Gym Owners
For academy owners, pricing can often be difficult to benchmark due to limited transparency across the industry. This report provides an opportunity to compare membership fees against local, regional and national markets while identifying broader pricing trends across the UK and Ireland.
Gym owners can use these benchmarks to:
- Compare pricing against regional competitors
- Evaluate membership affordability
- Understand national pricing trends
- Support future pricing decisions
- Position their academy within the wider market
