UnaBJJ is a small, family-run Brazilian jiu-jitsu academy in Forest Hills, Queens, open since late 2011 under the motto "Small Academy, Big Heart." It is led by two third-degree black belt professors from the Alexandre "Soca" Freitas and Carlos Gracie Jr lineage. The schedule covers gi and no-gi BJJ for beginners through advanced students, a striking class built on pad work and sparring for experienced students, and judo instruction with a Kosen-style approach. Kids from preschool age through their teens have their own programs, including a competitive team that travels along the East Coast. Early-morning adult sessions suit those training before work, and the academy welcomes visitors from other schools. The mat space has padded walls plus cardio and weights equipment.
