Ben Robson Joins Matador

Polaris Veteran and Faber Jiu Jitsu Head Coach Enters the Matador Ecosystem

Matador is proud to welcome Ben Robson, also known throughout the UK grappling scene as SpudJitsu, to the growing Matador combat sports ecosystem.

A highly decorated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, competitor, and coach, Ben has built a strong reputation across the UK and European grappling circuit through years of high-level competition, coaching, and technical development. He is now officially part of the Matador platform, allowing practitioners and gyms to connect directly with his seminars, events, and future opportunities.

Who Is Ben Robson?

UK Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Competitor, Coach and Black Belt

Ben Robson currently serves as the Head Coach at Faber Jiu Jitsu in Warwickshire, UK, where he is known for his principle-based approach to teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Rather than focusing purely on techniques in isolation, his coaching style centres around helping students understand timing, strategy, movement, and decision-making under pressure, an approach that has helped develop both competitors and hobbyists alike.

Ben received his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Espen Mathiesen and Mavericks, adding another respected lineage connection into the growing network of athletes joining Matador.

Ben Robson Achievements and Competition Record

Multiple-Time British Champion and Elite Grappling Competitor

Ben’s competition record speaks for itself. He is a:

  • 6x British Champion
  • 2x British Catch Wrestling Champion
  • Italian Champion
  • Welsh Champion
  • Geneva Open No-Gi 2023 Finalist

Over the years, he has also competed on some of the most recognised stages in professional grappling, including:

  • Polaris
  • GrappleFest
  • Grapple Kings
  • NAGA
  • Endured Professional
  • and numerous other elite invitational promotions across the UK and Europe

His aggressive style, technical depth, and willingness to take difficult matchups have made him a respected name across the UK no-gi and submission grappling scene.

Beyond Competition

Researching Athlete Safety and Concussion Recovery

Outside of coaching and competition, Ben also brings an academic and sports performance background into the combat sports world.

He is currently a PhD candidate researching return-to-play protocols for professional rugby players following concussion, an area becoming increasingly important across both combat sports and contact athletics.

His work focuses on bridging performance, recovery, and athlete safety, adding another layer to the knowledge he brings onto the mats.

Why Ben Robson Joining Matador Matters

Connecting Athletes, Gyms and Practitioners

Ben joining Matador reflects the wider direction the platform is moving in as it continues building a connected operating system for combat sports.

Matador was originally created to solve a common problem within Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and combat sports: athletes, gyms, and practitioners often struggle to discover seminars and opportunities before they disappear into fragmented social posts, group chats, and word of mouth.

Today, Matador connects:

  • Seminar discovery
  • Demand visualisation
  • Event management
  • Ticketing
  • Live streaming
  • Instructionals
  • Smart notifications
  • and upcoming gym management tools

into a single ecosystem available across iOS, Android, and web.

Practitioners can show direct interest in athletes through Matador’s demand visualisation system, allowing coaches and seminar organisers to identify where demand is building geographically.

Gyms can already claim their profiles free of charge, with a major gym management release currently undergoing final testing ahead of launch.

That upcoming release will allow gyms to manage memberships, schedules, communication, attendance, seminars, and operations directly through the platform while also connecting them directly into Matador’s growing athlete network.
